Joe Burgett
I’m running because our Republican priorities have drifted. Too often, we see politicians fighting over the latest national outrage on social media while local issues go unsolved. It’s time to get back to real work and real results. That starts with better roads, so families and businesses can move safely and efficiently. It means investing in our schools, so every child has the opportunity to succeed. And it requires transparency in government, so taxpayers know how their money is spent and can hold elected officials accountable.
I’m not a career politician, just a neighbor who cares deeply about our community and wants to make a difference. I started out as a general contractor and later became a professor at Clemson University, where I teach construction science and management. Along the way, I’ve worked with contractors, engineers, the SCDOT, and local and state agencies to make our projects more efficient, more cost-effective, and more accountable to taxpayers. I pride myself on using data and technology to solve real problems. My career has always been about building smarter systems and helping people tackle challenges with creativity and innovation. That’s exactly the approach that is needed in Columbia.
As a longtime foster dad, I’ve seen firsthand how good people can fall through the cracks when systems stop working. We can and must do better — not with more partisanship, but with practical solutions that put results before rhetoric.
It’s time to get back to basics: roads, schools, transparency.
Together, we can build a South Carolina that works — for all of us.
