My Priorities
Clemson deserves practical leadership focused on positive results. As a contractor turned professor, I bring a problem-solving approach grounded in accountability, experience, and community values. My campaign is built around four priorities: plan-led growth, support for Clemson businesses, strong coordination with the University, and protecting Clemson’s character and quality of life.
A Clemson to Enjoy
Plan-Led Growth
Clemson should grow with purpose, not by accident. Plan-led growth means using the Comprehensive Plan as a real guide for development decisions. New projects should be approved only where they fit the community’s long-term vision, protect established neighborhoods, and preserve the character that makes Clemson special. Growth must also be matched by adequate infrastructure. Before major development moves forward, the City should be confident that roads, utilities, public safety, parking, and other essential services can support it. Responsible growth is not about stopping change. It is about making sure change is thoughtful, predictable, and beneficial to the people who already call Clemson home.
Support Clemson Businesses
Clemson’s growth should create more opportunities for local businesses. I will look for responsible ways new development and a stronger commercial base can help reduce taxes, especially the business license tax. Clemson should also work to attract a broader mix of shops, restaurants, professional services, and family-friendly destinations that serve residents throughout the year. Supporting businesses means making City processes clear, efficient, and predictable while respecting taxpayers and encouraging investment. A healthy local economy gives people more choices, strengthens our tax base, creates jobs, and helps make Clemson a more enjoyable place to live, work, and visit.
Strengthen Coordination with the University
Clemson’s future depends on a strong, respectful partnership between the City and Clemson University. As a tenured Clemson professor, I understand both the University’s goals and the concerns of residents. New leadership in the President’s and Provost’s offices creates an opportunity to start fresh, strengthen communication, and present practical new ideas. The City and University should coordinate earlier on major concerts, events, traffic, parking, public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhood impacts. We should also encourage more on-campus student housing to reduce pressure on established neighborhoods. By planning together and communicating openly, Clemson can benefit from the University’s success while protecting the quality of life residents value.
Clemson Character & Quality of Life
Clemson’s character is shaped by its neighborhoods, natural beauty, local traditions, and the people who call it home. Protecting that character requires leadership that reflects the values of the community—transparent, open, positive, inclusive, and grounded in facts. I believe residents deserve clear communication, careful listening, and decisions based on reliable data rather than personal agendas. Quality of life should remain at the center of every City Council decision, from development and traffic to parks, public safety, and neighborhood preservation. By planning responsibly and treating people with respect, we can keep Clemson welcoming, livable, and enjoyable for residents of every age and background.
